Caribbean Stud Poker Tips

Caribbean stud poker players have the option of placing a one dollar progressive jackpot wager prior to the cards being dealt. This bet pays off for hands of a flush or higher according to the payout table that a particular casino utilizes. If a player is dealt a royal flush, they will receive 100% of the jackpot meter and if they are dealt a straight flush they will receive 10% of the meter amount.

In the unlikely event that two players are dealt royal flushes on the same hand, casinos either pay the first player to the dealers left the jackpot and the second player would receive the amount in the jackpot after it is reset or the two players would split the jackpot amount. Jackpots typically start at either $10,000 or $20,000.

If two players are dealt straight flushes on the same hand, the first player to the dealers left would receive 10% of the jackpot meter and the second player would receive 10% of the amount left over. It is always best to sit as close to the dealers left as possible.

The progressive bet is an exceptionally bad bet unless the jackpot amount is greater than $263,228. If the jackpot is only $100,000, the house edge on that bet is around 50% Typically, for every dollar bet 71 cents goes towards the jackpot amount and the casino keeps the rest. All payoffs including flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and royal flushes are made directly from the meter and that amount reduces the overall jackpot payout. When the royal flush hits, the casino puts up the money to start the next jackpot.

Basically, unless you have ESP or some divine intervention, you should not place the progressive bet until the jackpot exceeds $263,228. This is the point at which the amount of total money required to win the jackpot will be less than the payout.
